What is the course about?

Foundation programmes

The Level 3 qualifications improve subject knowledge and study skills, and prepare learners for undergraduate course at UK universities.

This course will give you the chance to gain academic qualifications and provide you with relevant practical experience to pursue a career within the aeronautical engineering industry. It will also provide you with a qualification that can lead to higher education. The diploma is of 18 units which follows the BTEC syllabus (Aerospace Mechanical) relating to Aircraft Maintenance in category Airframe, Engine and Avionics, leading you to progress towards HNC/HND, BA/BSc and/or Part 66 licenses.

Edexcel BTEC Level 3 

  • Qualification credit value: a minimum of 180 credits.
  • Minimum credits to be achieved at, or above, the level of the qualification: 135 credits.
  • Mandatory unit credits: 50 credits.
  • Optional unit credits: 130.
  • A maximum of 30 optional credits can come from other QCF BTEC units to meet local needs.

How long does it last?

The course is a full-time qualification, which is normally a two year duration. Currently, students are in college between 18 and 22 hours per week (three and a half days). Students will be required to study an additional 10 hours per week to complete research and assignments.

Who is the course suitable for?

16 – 18 year old school leavers who have an interest in a career in the aeronautical engineering industry.

What grades do I need?

5 GCSE passes at grade C or above (including 2 at grade B or above in Maths, Science or a related subject).

How is the course assessed?

There is a combination of continuous assessment, end of unit tests and assignments.
